I was told two job stories these days. Both situations involve encroaching employers. In one case, extra (unpaid) hours are demanded with a flimsy justification; in the other, extra tasks were assigned that require extra work, which is then not paid. The I Ching‘s commentary in both cases is 10 – the treading.

19 – approach
We open ourselves to our environment – and become inspired… Not an easy task, if our head and mind are full. Ok, once again: we open ourselves, make ourselves empty and perceptive, curious, without prejudiced, without any prior knowledge. We listen carefully: What does the external world want to tell us? And all off a sudden: we perceive it – and are inspired! Nourished, fertilized, refreshed… connected with what previously was alien, non-familiar. From this contact with the external world a decision arises, followed by a long period of growth and materialization. Maybe it will take some time before we see results. But we need not do anything. Only trust: in our inspiration, in our decision.

…and I return to the world: my (re-)birth!
What reactions do I get? What are the environment’s responses? Am I received with with open arms, listened to carefully? Or does nobody really care about what I have to say, preferring the old “me”? And, how do I respond? No, definitely not retelling the old, pleasing stories. But: my true story. Anything else would result in a false life and we know: there is no right life amidst wrongs.

Scope of Questions
So far I received various questions regarding hexagram 41 – decrease:
- A user asks: “Was it just my own thought … or did I really hear his voice?”*
- Another user would like to buy a nice condominium, but is not yet sure if he should do so. His question to the I Ching: “What happens if I buy the condo?”
- One user describes himself as a person full of mental blockades. However, these began to loosen up recently. His question now to the I Ching is: “How do I get closer to a new professional vision?”
- A user asks: “How can I fulfill my life path/soul path?”
54 – the marrying maiden
Questions on Hexagram 54
The Marrying Maiden – what a programmatic title! Although hexagram 54 – The Marrying Maiden probably speaks about beginnings in general(not only of a partnership nature), I have received, I have only received questions that literally fit the title:
- A user asks: “What is the current state of our connection: Will we have a relationship?”
- One user describes her situation as follows: “I’ve been in a relationship for seven years now. We are opposites, we are both dominant, we are no strangers to arguments… Nevertheless, we always find our way back to each other and the subject of marriage has been on the table for a long time. My question to the I Ching: ‘How should I behave in this partnership, which I often feel is a battle?'”

58 – the joyous
Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in again… Only in connection with my environment am I viable. I cannot exist in complete isolation, I depend on exchange. Breathing. Acting.

Questions on Hexagram 60
- The user’s question is: “What is there to say about the city / area where I live?” The user has lived in this place for a long time, but always with a feeling of alienation, discomfort, like a prisoner. He feels grateful – but at the same time burdened, bored.
The answer of the I Ching is: 60 – limitation. Somehow he likes the modern interpretation Debris turns Humus. A similar phrase has been with him for a long time, a phrase that speaks of flowers that need a certain kind of soil/dung to grow. - The user’s question: “What is important now, in this existentially threatening situation?” The background, he explains, is that new projects are developing that give him justified hope. He feels that he should nurture hope and at the same time take the chaos (in the form of his living environment) more easily. There is a lot to sort out, and this mountain of work together with old fears almost paralyzes him. But at the same time he feels hope, a light that gives him courage and says: All is well.
- A user asks how he should behave in the upcoming collaboration. He actually feels superior to his partner because of his greater experience and would like to set the pace. On the other hand, it is clear that his partner will manage and coordinate the entire project.
- A user asks: “When will Max the dachshund return to his owner? Will he ever come back?”
- One user writes: “I’ve started a new job and find myself increasingly overwhelmed by the demands of the position. At first I thought that the project would open up to me as I got used to it, but now I find myself more exhausted and drained every day. My question to the I Ching is: ‘How can I resolve this situation? What should I do?'”

61 – inner truth
Case Study
A user has the following concern: “Why does the question of the meaning of life keep popping into my head, even though it seems to make no sense and I just keep going around in circles?” The I Ching’s answer: hexagram 61 – Inner Truth.
