Here and now. Really, where am I? What have I achieved so far? What have I experienced, what has led me here, what adventures have I undergone… These are the questions this hexagram asks – but definitely not: Where do I want to go now?

17 – following
Something new is coming to light decisively and powerfully. It will transform the entire situation. However, this new beginning has a price: we must disengage and let go of what is outdated, obsolete, an old pattern – even if it is hard to abandon something that was trusted and familiar for such a long time now. Eventually this image helps: a tree discarding old foliage, getting ready for a new cycle of life, with the old foliage serving as a fertilizer for new growth. We also need this fertilizer which is generated by disengagement: for our own forward bursting growth, which soon will interweave with the world, resonating with it in giving and taking.

Here. Now. At this moment it is wise to withdraw into our own root. To withdraw from the world. To turn our gaze inwards. Just as a plant does in winter. To do nothing. This moment belongs to us alone. We draw strength. Like a wave, which stretches back into the sea, concentrating its energy. And even though it may look as if we surrender – we do not surrender. We gather our strength. We focus our energy. In non-action (Wu Wei) we are provides with everything we may need at this moment. Incidentally letting go of a few old, unnecessary things / thoughts / attitudes… before we powerfully rush back into life.

Scope of Questions
I received the following questions and descriptions of situations that resulted in hexagram 25 – innocence:
- One user writes: “After an unpleasant event a few months ago, I am more or less in a kind of crisis. I have my life under control and am getting along reasonably well, but emotionally I am still very much shaken. Since then I try to understand the best I can what actually happened – also by questioning the I Ching.”
- Another user asks: “Please, tell me how the story between me and x will develop further during the upcoming year!”
- A users has met a person in a quite unique way who later on turned out to be very important for her. Her question: “Will we meet again? Or: what’s the point?”
- One user asks: “What’s next?”
31 – influence
And now a short recipe for… happiness! 1. Briefly take stock and examine what may be an unnecessary burden, blocking your forces and as a result weakening. Let go all of it! 2. This releases new energies are and off you go…. Without any active involvement from your side, something starts happening: unstoppably, relentlessly, pushing out from your own core. Like a caterpillar inside the cocoon turning into a butterfly, invisibly following its own perfect pathway.

How to solve open issues / unfinished tasks / open points? Much by tackling the problem and work it down. However, some issues can not be solved and checked off through our intervention, sometimes the solution lies beyond our possibilities.

Scope of Questions
In the context of hexagram 42 – Increase users share the following concerns with me:
- A user analyzes his current situation as follows: “Nothing is at stake and it was not an ego-driven decision of my will that made me come here.” This results in his question: “If nothing is at stake: How can I live here and now in the most pleasant way?”
- Another user asks: “Shall I build my consulting activities on the I Ching and use the hexagrams?”
- A user asks: “After a long search, a friend told me that a room will become available at her place. I accepted. But then she offered that we could also look for something new together. My question to the I Ching is: ‘Should I move in with my friend?'”
- One user asks: “What situation am I in at the moment and what will help me?”
- A user asks: “Does S. still love me?”

45 – gathering together
Scope of Questions
- A user asks what exactly is meant by “lesson learned” in contemporary interpretation. His personal life situation: paradisaical abundance, tempting offers – and he immediately would like to accept everything. His question to the I Ching is: “What should I do?”
- A user describes her situation as follows: “I am very interested in a man, who is – unfortunately – quite prominent. However, I would like to meet him.”
- A user asks the I Ching: “What can I do to calm down and stay focused?” Her financial situation scares her, makes her freeze up and prevents her from doing things and getting things done. She would like to better prepare and communicate her offers so that her products are noticed and bought by as many people as possible. Secretly she knows that she has treasures just waiting to be shared with the world.
- An other user asks: “Should I take up painting art professionally to earn a living?“ And about his situation: “I am trying to find my way professionally after a long period of unemployment, following a high stress, executive position from which I was terminated without cause. My mother was a professional artist, who died right after I lost my job. I grew up working with her and am very knowledgeable about art, own her equipment and materials, and used to do art when I was much younger.“
- One user asked the I Ching where he was in his life and career and what he need to do next/focus on. Recently he quit his job and drastically changed careers, starting his own business and adjusting to a very different life.
- A user has conversations with her partner in which she clearly discloses her emotional needs. She asks the I Ching whether the other person even understands what she is concerned about and whether these conversations are more likely to strengthen or end the relationship. The the I Ching’s answer for her is hexagram 45 – gathering together, which then develops into hexagram 47 – oppression. Apparently a decision has to be made. And she gradually asks herself where her own emotional needs are coming from at heart. She also realizes what relationship means to her, namely together, complementary, emotionally involved – but by no means oppression. The partners’ respective basic needs should match, otherwise the relationship should be left alone.
56 – the wanderer
Scope of Questions
I received the following inquiry regarding hexagram 56 – the Wanderer:
- The user’s question is: “What I can do to enjoy my life?”
She describes her overall situation as follows: “I cannot bear disharmony with other people, it paralyzes my life force and makes me feel deeply depresses. At the same time I feel guilty and responsible for the situation. Therefore, after discord, I’m always the one who takes the first step, a pattern I follow since my childhood. I would really love to develop something like self love.” - One user writes: “I am self-employed as a parent coach. However, the business is not going well yet. My question to the I Ching: ‘Am I on the right track? Should I rethink my target group?'”

59 – dispersion
Scope of Questions
- A user asks the I Ching regarding her corporate constellation which had fitted her well for a long time. Recently, however, she had the feeling that it was time for a change as she wants to concentrate on a different target group in the future. The I Ching answers with hexagram 59 – dispersion. The title, dispersion, confuses her: does it mean that she should liquidate her old business and then to start all over again in a new constellation?
- Another user asks: “What should I consider regarding a change of domicile? I want originality, more authenticity, more harmony between inside and outside.”
- One user asks: “Will my ex-girlfriend and I get back together?”
- Another user lost his various jobs during the pandemic period with all its lockdowns, everything got canceled. On the other hand, his livelihood had never been really good during the past years, money was always tight. Therefore, he asks the I Ching the following question: “What do you advise me to do professionally?” The answer is 59 – dispersion.
- A user frees himself from many mental burdens since three days now. Previously, he lost his livelihood and his house. His question to the I Ching concerns his inner state.
- One user describes the situation as follows: “I sense that a passionate relationship with another woman is on the horizon for my partner. I can only wait until it becomes clear and think about my exit strategy in the meantime. Love desires are forces of nature. When I consulted the I Ching, hexagram 59 – dispersion changed to hexagram 23 – splitting apart. The answer could not be more fitting.”
- One user writes: “My girlfriend has now canceled our vacation together twice. The second time she even said she couldn’t continue the relationship with me either. Even though everything was harmonious. What is she afraid of? Is she afraid of sexuality?”
61 – inner truth
Scope of Questions
- A user has the following concern: “Why does the question about the meaning of life constantly pop into my mind, even though that questions seems to lack sense and I just turn in circles?”
- Another user asks what the coming year will bring. The I Ching’s answer, hexagram 61 – Inner Truth, fits well with her life situation. She is learning more and more to rely on her inner voice and her perception for guidance.
- One user writes: “I have been seeing a man on and off for about two and a half years. On the one hand, we feel attracted to each other in a special way, but on the other, it doesn’t seem to be the right time for a partnership. Eventually we could meet and connect very easily and light-heartedly on a physical level, I as a woman would just have to give the signal. But within myself I’m not ready yet. So much old stuff overshadows my own joyful energy, I lack inner security.”
- One user’s question is: “How can I find my strength in my artistic work and enjoy it again?”
62 – preponderance of the small
Scope of Questions
- The exam period is beginning. A user wants the best possible grades for her final exam. However, she feels she has not yet fully mastered the material. Should she postpone the exams? Her question to the I Ching: “Should I do the exams now?”
- A user asks the following question: “Does he call me because he still has the same feelings as I do? Does he just call out of kindness? Does he call me because he misses me as much as I do? Does he still have feelings for me?” The I Ching’s answer is 62 – Preponderance of the Small.
- The user’s newly moved-in neighbor repeatedly operates a device that disturbs the peace, triggers violent vibrations and sounds as if a moped was riding up and down in front of and under the apartment all the time. Neither the property management nor the police take the complaints seriously, but the user does not want to move either. His question to the I Ching: “What happens now with this situation?”
